P.Oxy. 16 1855

20.5 x 32.8

CG10137

Letter from Victor to George

(6th or 7th century)

Cf. P.Oxy. XVI 1844. This letter is another illustration of the scale of the business which came under the attention of Victor and his colleagues. Victor had been collecting taxes; and since it is clear that he was in private service, it followes that the family which employed him enjoyed the privilege of autopragia.
